I know you may have heard that before, but I promise that almond amaretto pound cake is AMAZING.
It's a super crazy, damp, perfectly dense poundcake flavored with amaretto liqueur and almond extract.
Then it is doused with a warm butter-amaretto sauce to really surpass it.
I promise you will love this new cake almost as much as you love your kids. (Joking, somehow.)
When I made this cake for the first time, the smell from my oven spilled me in, but I was still nervous when it was time to cut it.
I tried a new recipe with more Amaretto than I would normally add.
I was a little scared that I might lose the traditional pound pie texture and instead end up with a fluffy cake.
Luckily, the first piece I cut proved that the cake had the perfect consistency and the smell alone killed me.
I quickly made the sauce for it and we were all on our second slice before I knew what had happened.
I have made this cake three times now and each time it has been a great success for all our guests.

Recipe tip: If you need to cook your sauce ahead of time, store it in the refrigerator and heat it in microwaves in 30-second increments, stirring each time until it's hot.
You can use any alcohol you want, but Amaretto has such a mild taste with light notes of almonds and cherries that it works perfectly in this pound cake.
It is not too strong and my children have seriously devoured it. (Pssst – do not worry, the actual alcohol burns off while the cake is baked and the sauce is cooked.)
